When my husband and I began talking about what we could do with our dog during the month of April, that would be special for us as a pet loving family, my husband mentioned the Bark at the Park event at Comerica Park. We couldn't wait to add this bark at the park dog friendly game as one of furry adventures this Spring!
Each year, ball parks across the country offer Bark at the Park events for people to bring their dogs with them to the baseball games. At Comerica Park, April 21, 2025 is the first of these events of the season for Detroit Tigers Dog loving fans.

I was thrilled about going to the Bark at the Park dog friendly game with my hubby and our family pet as I hadn't been to Comerica Park since taking my mom before she passed in 2022. So I was excited to return for our first family baseball game experience with our dog and immediately began booking and planning our trip.
Travel Itinerary Quick Overview
Depart the day of the event.
Check into our hotel and unpack.
Walk to the ballpark and attend Bark in the Park.
Dine at a pet friendly restaurant or have food delivered to the hotel.
Stay overnight and play and walk our pet.
Walk our pet the next morning and dine at a pet friendly restaurant
Pack, check out of our hotel and drive home.
How to purchase tickets for Bark in the Park:
Before purchasing our ticket, we had to sign the waiver of liability. Once accepted, the option to purchase tickets opened up. One ticket is needed for the dog and one for the adult. Only one dog ticket can be purchased per adult ticket purchased.
This is a special ticketed event so a Bark in the Park ticket is required to be purchased in advance to attend with you dog using the code BARK.
The seats we purchased were located in section 217, ROW 10, Seats 3,4, and 5.
Bark in the Park tickets are located in the Mezzanine level Sections 211 to 217.
What to Expect at Comerica Park for this Event:
Special ticket holders and their furry companion enter the event at the Rocket Mortgage Entry Gate. See map below.
Required paperwork for your dog must be presented before entering security.
Access to the Bark in the Park party area includes water stations, doggie "restrooms" and other amenities.

What to Bring to Bark in the Park:
Bringing your furry companion to the ball park is not only super cute but what goes better with baseballs and hotdogs than your own dog?! Besides our pet, here's what we needed to bring with us for our furry companion to attend (from the MLB/ComericaPark website):
All participants must provide a copy of all up-to-date dog vaccinations upon check in (entry will not be granted without this printed information).
All vaccinations must be up to date and every dog must be spayed and neutered.
All participants are responsible for providing their own doggie bags, dog food, etc.
No retractable leashes are allowed inside the ballpark.

Our Pet Friendly Hotel Stay
We chose to stay at an Autograph Collection Hotel by Marriott. Whenever I travel, I prefer staying at an Autograph hotel because each one has its own distinct style, features unique art collections, and offers top-notch guest services.
I am a loyal Marriott member and have had many positive experiences at this brand of hotels and highly recommend a stay at these locations.
We chose the Hotel David Whitney in Detroit for the following reasons:
Pet-friendly accommodations that make traveling with our dog comfortable.
Convenient 4 minute walk to Comerica Park.
Positive reviews regarding service and amenities.
Friendly staff interaction and special dog-friendly services.
Visiting this historic hotel was something I've always wanted to do, and this was the ideal opportunity. I was able to use my free night stay with the AMX Marriott Bonvoy card.
Preparing for our Dog’s First Ball Game

I knew we needed tickets for all three of us, plus all the essential paperwork for our furry
companion. But it didn’t stop there! We were on the hunt for accommodations that were genuinely pet-friendly. And I mean *truly* pet-friendly! You know how it goes—I've been to those so-called ‘pet-friendly’ hotels before, only to find out they were about as accommodating as a cat in a dog park! No nearby parks, trails, or even a decent spot for a walk. Just a lot of car noise and not a sniff of green space in sight!
This time, it was all about making sure we found a place that welcomed our pup with open paws. We wanted a hotel that not only allowed pets but also had easy access to parks or trails where we could enjoy some quality time together.
After all, what’s a getaway without our four-legged friend having a great time, too?
Grand Circus Park is across the street from this hotel and offers plenty of green space, expansive canopied trees to beat the heat, sidewalks, and safety walkways. There is also a stretch of green grass you can walk your pet in the middle of Washington Blvd.
In doing my research, I found conflicting information for where I wanted to stay at the David Whitney Autograph Collection Hotel in Downtown Detroit. On two separate occasions I called them and was told by one person that the weight restriction was 50 pounds and another person told me that the weight restriction was 150 pounds. Online, their website has zero information, and the Marriott website says the weight restriction is 40 pounds. I was so confused but we decided to trust our conversations over the phone that our dog would be welcomed.
Where to Eat in Detroit - Dog Friendly Restaurants
We have taken our dog to a couple of different restaurants who offer dog-friendly dining. While we love the option and ability to bring our pet along, we would rather either leave him in the hotel while we dine out or better yet, eat in the comfort of our hotel room with our pet at our feet. There are plenty of options in Detroit who allow pets. We are sharing our top 10 list of pet friendly restaurants based off noise level, accommodations, and reviews, with walkup windows or outdoor seating. Our favorites which have the closest walking distance to the hotel are:

I feel it is important to include our pet on our travels with us when we can. We enjoy spending time with him and want to not only have adventures as a couple and with our family when we can, but also with our pet. The joys of combining travel, sport, and pet companionship into one weekend. Subscribe to find out if this was a bonding moment for us with our pet at a major sporting event or if it was too much work.
